Lightbourne joins 100 club

Kyle Lightbourne: His equaliser on Saturday marked his 100th English league goal.

Three weeks after Shaun Goater notched his century for Manchester City, Kyle Lightbourne has now joined the 100 club.

The Macclesfield Town striker scored his 100th goal in league football in the 3-3 draw with Torquay United on Saturday.

Fittingly Lightbourne's strike saved the day for the Silkmen who came back from 3-1 down to rescue a point.

Macclesfield had conceded three goals in the first ten minutes, before getting their act together and clawing their way back into the match through Steve Macauley, David Eaton and Lightbourne's 87th minute headed equaliser.

The Bermudian's ton of goals comes from a career spent at Scarborough, Walsall, Coventry City, Stoke City and Macclesfield, plus various loan stints.

Goater, meanwhile, endured an unhappy weekend with City crashing to a 3-1 defeat at Middlesbrough.

The Blues had been going for an unprecedented third away Premiership victory on the trot but they had not won at Boro since the 1970s and things were not about to change on Saturday.

Having gone 2-0 down, City pulled a goal back in the second half through Goater's strike partner Nicolas Anelka. However, any chances they had of salvaging a draw were lost when Shaun Wright-Phillips was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Boro sealed the victory six minutes from time.

With Aston Villa, Fulham and Birmingham all winning, the Blues second Premiership defeat in seven days means they are now just five points off the foot of the table.

"We are where we deserve to be at the minute," said boss Kevin Keegan."We got what we deserved and that was nothing. Middlesbrough played the better football and I have no qualms about the result.

"Maybe we had a chance of getting back into the game at 2-1 but perhaps showed a bit of naivety to lose out the way we did."
