No pressure says Hornets skipper ahead of cup final
Tomorrow?s Martonmere Cup final is certain to be a memorable occasion for Dandy Town?s Maurice Lowe.
Lowe will be making his first-ever appearance in a final as captain of the Hornets, last season?s beaten Martonmere finalists.
And for those who might think the senior national team member will be somewhat nervous, then think again.
?There?s no pressure on me or the team for that matter. For us, this is just another game of football and we?re all looking forward to enjoying it,? Lowe told .
Hornets warmed up for tomorrow?s cup clash with Somerset Trojans by way of a 4-1 thrashing of PHC last weekend at the Barn.
And it is this very form Lowe hopes his team-mates can reproduce against a Trojans side making a first appearance in a major cup final since 1994-95.
?We always create chances. But on that day we were finally able to convert our chances and it was definitely good to see us hit a bit of good form,? said Lowe.
?We?re all excited just to be in a final, even though we have a lot of new players who were not there last season. But we also have a few veterans as well and so I think the balance is there.?
North Village edged by Town in extra-time in last year?s final.
?Our guys love to knock the ball around and so it?s going to be a real pleasure playing on the wider surface up there,? he added.
?I think the match could go either way judging by the competitiveness of the previous two matches with them earlier this season. I think the team who want it most and put in the better performance on the day will come out victorious.
?There?s certainly been a buzz around the club this week and it?s good to have the community backing us.?
Meanwhile, like his opposing number in the brown and gold, Somerset Trojans? Jelani Scott is also on the verge of captaining a club for the first time in a major cup final.
And the Trojans? skipper hopes to make the occasion one he will always remember.
?Somerset is the only jersey I?ve ever worn and for Dennis Brown to give me the honour of captaining the team is definitely going to be a memorable occasion for me,? said Scott.
?Hopefully we can play to our full potential and remain committed to the task. Personally I feel pretty good, the guys are motivated and basically everyone wants to move forward.?
As far as butterflies are concerned, Scott added: ?Once the first ball is kicked we should be alright. Everyone is just looking forward to the match.?
Trojans, who sat idle last weekend, have already beaten Town twice this season by the odd goal and can again expect to find their work cut out for them.
Hornets are fresh off an inspiring 4-1 drubbing of PHC Zebras last Sunday.
