Rest suffer third straight loss

The Rest of the Americas (ROA), containing several Bermudians, fell to their third consecutive defeat in the West Indies Under-19 One-Day cricket tournament yesterday, losing to Jamaica by seven wickets in Guyana.

Few details were available last night but the ROA scored 111 off 40 overs with captain Stephen Outerbridge of Bermuda leading the way with 38 while William Perkins made 29. Krishmar Santokie took five for 33 while his Jamaican compatriots, Alton Beckford and Howard Powell grabbed two for 17 and two for 21 respectively.

Jamaica, who were at one stage 98 for three, went on to secure victory.

Defending champions, Windward Islands, had thrashed the ROA by 105 runs on Wednesday at Bourda.

The Windwards posted 214 all out off 46.2 overs after electing to bat and dismissed ROA for 109 in 36.2 overs.

Openers Craig Emanuel (55) and Luke Browne (35) gave the Windwards a solid start and their skipper, Liam Sebastien, pitched in with 47 coming in at number four. Bermudian leg-spinner Justin Robinson (of Western Stars) captured three for 43 to lead the ROA bowling.

In ROA's reply, they never threatened the target as only right-handed opener Dion Stovell and Ron Ebanks showed any resistance. Stovell hit 33 from 32 balls.

Off-spinner Sebastien, with three for 11 off seven overs, did most of the damage for the Windwards, and he was supported by pacer Jean Paul (three for 30) and off-spinner Devin Charles (two for nine).

Now out of the running for honours in the One-Day competition - which enters the semi-final stage tomorrow - the ROA will be looking to perform better in the three-day segment next week.

Their first fixture is against Barbados starting on Tuesday.
