BFA to host World Cup qualifier

Bermuda has been given the green light to host Group A matches in the next Caribbean Under-17 World Cup soccer qualifier.

Bermuda Football Association made the announcement yesterday noting that Bermuda's youth team would be competing in that group alongside Trinidad and Tobago, the winners of the preliminary tie between St. Lucia and US Virgin Islands and the winners of the Dominica and Guyana tie.

A BFA statement explained that dates for the four-nation qualifier were still being debated.

CONCACAF president Jack Warner, who was on hand for last Friday night's final of the International Youth Tournament at the National Sports Centre, won by Jamaica, has thrown his full support behind the local association in their efforts to host the event, according to the BFA.

The winner of Group A will advance to the CONCACAF final to be played between February and March next year at a venue still to be announced.

From there the winner will go through to the Under-17 World Cup Finals to be held in Finland between August 13-29 next year.
