Island youth team romp to big victory

Bermuda's national under-15 cricket squad continued their winning ways at the Americas Regional Tournament in Orlando, Florida, yesterday when they crushed Canada by 10 wickets.

Bermuda have now won each of their three opening games, having previously defeated hosts USA by 102 runs and then Cayman Islands by 109 runs.

Today the Island's youngsters face the Combined Affiliates and then in the last game of the tournament on Thursday they meet Argentina.

Yesterday, Bermuda bowlers completely dominated the Canadian batsmen as they bowled them out for just 46.

Skipper Rodney Trott, Justin Pitcher and Dwyia Blyden each captured three wickets.

Captain Trott then led from the front, opening the batting with Oronde Bascome - the pair safely securing victory without the loss of a wicket.

Bermuda Cricket Board of Control president Reggie Pearman said he was delighted with the victory and had high praise for the team's coaches.

"It is a pleasure to see the continued success of our side on the field," he said.

"The squad have worked hard under guidance of George Cannonier and Grant Smith for the past few years.

"Both George and Grant have performed a sterling job and sacrificed many personal hours to help develop this team alongside national coach Mark Harper."
