Give me the players; I?ll give you the results ? Logie

The biggest obstacle to Bermuda?s success in the World Cup is access to players, Gus Logie revealed on the eve of his side?s departure for Antigua.

With the team travelling today to the Caribbean Island for Friday?s Stanford 20-20 clash with Jamaica, all players were allowed the day off by employers yesterday and Logie was able to train with the entire 13-man squad for the first time.

Although the coach is confident his side can compete with Chris Gayle and his assortment of Test colleagues, his preparations have been severely hampered by the players? inability to secure time off work, often leaving training sessions to be conducted with just a handful of the team.

?It has made things difficult at times,? said Logie, who said it was ?fantastic? to have the whole squad for yesterday?s drills at the National Sports Centre?s North Field.

?We haven?t been able to get all of the players and I think the biggest problem we will have in our preparations is access to players.

?We have a core group who have been training religiously and you can see that this central group are head and shoulders above some of the others.

?We certainly have the players and have the talent but without the time to train, it is hard to make the most of that.

?We need to have the players all together as a unit to really be able to make the most of what we are trying to do here.?

The former West Indies also admitted his frustration at the unavailability of the facilities.

?We have the facilities here,? continued Logie.

?They are great facilities, but for one reason or another we haven?t always been able to get access to them and that is something that needs to be addressed.?

Logie admitted steps are being taken in the right direction with Belco?s support of Kevin Hurdle and BTC backing Janeiro Tucker, but ?more sacrifices were needed? all round.

?This isn?t just about the players making sacrifices, this is about Government and about corporations, families, everyone,? said Logie.

?When these guys go off to play cricket, it isn?t just a few guys off on a holiday, this is something that benefits the whole country. Sport isn?t just about a few guys running around, hitting balls, there is a wider social aspect and a wider benefit to it and that is what has to be realised.

?Bermuda is going to be talked about all over the world after this World Cup and we want it to be for positive not negative reasons.

?We have the talent and to make the most of that talent, to let the players really show what they can do, we have to be able to work with them properly.?

Logie highlighted the four key areas of fitness, technique, tactics and the mental side of the game as his focus, stressing that the mental approach to matches is as important as the physical.

?I think we have an a great group of players who have proved what they can do,? added Logie.

?Expectations are high and they are up to the challenge.?
