Village sweep clean at football awards

Triple crown winners North Village dominated the Bermuda Football Association awards on Saturday night, claiming all the top gongs to seal a tremendous season of domestic supremacy.

In his first year in charge, Dwayne (Streaker) Adams claimed coach of the year while mercurial playmaker Keith Jennings took the MVP award.

Other Reds to benefit during the noisy night of mutual back-slapping at the National Sports Centre?s North Field Pavilion were Defender of the Year Kentoine Jennings, young MVP Keishen Bean and goalkeeper of the year Zane Hendrickson.

?I want to thank the club for believing in me and thank the players for believing in me and producing on the pitch all year,? said former national team goalkeeper Adams, whose side swept all before them in a season of success unprecedented in recent campaigns.

Keith Jennings ? who carried son Jakeem with him to receive his trophy ? also thanked his team-mates and then apologised to coach Adams and assistant Maceo Dill for being ?a pain? throughout the season although he promised to be so again next year.

There was no such dominance in the ladies? awards, with the honours being split among the various teams. National team captain and Lady Cougars star Naquita Dill claimed the MVP award with Somerset Hurricanes? Jessica Furtado taking the young player award.

Dandy Town Stars? Nina Webb was the defender of the year and PHC?s Dawnette Smith won the goalkeeping award. National women?s assistant coach Jeremy Salaam was coach of the year.

Women also claimed both the refereeing awards with Wendy Woodley voted most improved and Jenny Villamarin awarded Referee of the Year.

Top goalscorers were Yusaff Pitt, of promoted Paget, in the First Division, Cheyra Bell of Lady Cougars in the women?s while Aljame Zuill of Cougars claimed the Premier Division golden boot award.

Prospect United continued their dominance of the Fair Play trophy, claiming the award for fewest yellow or red cards for what is thought to be the fifth consecutive year while Lady Rams and Hurricanes shared the ladies? award having failed to pick up any cards all year.

A special ?Women in Football? award was given to former BFA and North Village administrator Angela Dill.
