Hubie's Bar
Hubie's Bar
Hubert Brown may not have been an Island leader in the way that politicians, top businessmen or other community activists are.
But in his own quiet way, the late owner of Hubie's Bar on Angle Street did as much as or more than many more renowned people to make Bermuda a better place.
For years, his small bar in "back of town" was a mecca for jazz lovers and a place where people from all walks of life could gathered on Friday nights to listen to good music, share conversation and unwind from the pressures of the week.
Without pretension or publicity, Mr. Brown provided some of the glue that keeps a small and diverse community together.
It is to be hoped that despite Mr. Brown's passing, Hubie's will go on providing the same outlet for local talent, bonhomie and fellowship that he brought to his little bar while he was alive.
