Bottom Line available in Hamilton-area newspapers

Hurricane Katrina, which cost the Bermuda re/insurance industry $10 billion, is the focus of the November issue of Bottom Line Magazine.

The publication, which is out tomorrow, takes an up-close look at the huge price tag of what is likely to be the costliest-ever insured disaster and at the test it has imposed on Bermuda-based companies.

After the strong emphasis on corporate governance, in the wake of two severe hurricane seasons, the philosophy that sound risk management is an important element of this policy has gained traction. Corporate governance specialist Betty Dale explores this development for Bottom Line.

A disaster of Katrina?s magnitude demands comparison with 9/11, and leading business writer Roger Crombie examines the two most significant events to affect the industry and looks at their similarities and differences.

The magazine also looks at the impact on the badly-hit oil industry, and the impact from a Bermuda business perspective.

Bottom Line also looks at the weather forecasting research that is conducted in Bermuda, including the Risk Prediction Initiative and its focus on hurricanes undertaken by the Bermuda Biological Station, and at ocean rise research which is conducted in Bermuda with the assistance of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
