Premier takes the water route to work

Ferry ride: Premier Alex Scott and Minister without Portfolio Walter Lister board a fast ferry at Rockaway as part of the Sustainable Development Initiative.

Premier Alex Scott hopped on board a ferry last week to show how Bermuda residents can make a daily impact on improving the environment.

Mr. Scott, who also caught a bus one day last month instead of taking his GP1 car to the office, boarded the Sea Express shuttle at Granaway Heights before travelling to the Rockaway ferry stop in Southampton and boarding the 7.55 a.m. ferry to Hamilton.

After the 20 minute ride, he walked to Cabinet along Front Street.

Mr. Scott said: "I am pleased at the experiences I am having while using other modes of public transportation. In addition to the sustainable effort this represents, I have a wonderful time greeting and talking with my fellow Bermudians.

"They believe the idea of sustainability is an idea whose time has come and are encouraged that my efforts will be duplicated by others again and again."

The Premier intends to use alternative methods of commuting to work throughout the public consultation period for the new draft document on sustainable development, Charting Our Course: Sustaining Bermuda. To download a copy of the plan visit www.chartingourcourse.gov.bm.
