Swan says Police ?tipped? criminals in twins case

UBP Senate Leader Kim Swan yesterday berated the Police and the overseas forensics expert brought in to investigate the disappearance of the Cooper twins for showing their hand to the criminals involved.

Speaking on motion to adjourn last night, Sen. Swan said he ?couldn?t believe it? when he saw forensics expert Roy Gilbert on television disclosing all the ins and outs of how he proceeds with investigations ? ?and within a matter of hours? the house where the twins were held, containing all the evidence he was in the process of examining, was firebombed.

?You cannot tip off the criminal element,? Sen. Swan protested. ?The need to get the message out? was not being catered to properly.

Suggesting the formation of a think-tank of retired officers and investigators to advise on large investigations, Sen. Swan continued to voice his disbelief.

?I can?t understand the mindset that allows us to get in front of a camera and provide all that information to the criminal element.?

When asked to comment, Police media relations spokesperson Dwayne Caines replied: ?It is not common practice for the Bermuda Police Service to comment on comments made by politicians?.
