PLP stays mum on MP probe

PREMIER Ewart Brown has failed to comment on claims that a Government MP is under police investigation.

Two weeks ago police confirmed that a senior MP was the subject of an ongoing probe, although the source did not name the MP involved, the nature of the inquiry or how long it had been going on.

The revelation came just days after the resignation of Health Minister Nelson Bascome who stepped down following an investigation by Fraud Squad officers. It is understood Mr. Bascome could stand trial as a result of that investigation.

Yesterday, the Mid-Ocean News e-mailed questions to Dr. Brown's press secretary, asking if the Premier knew of the current investigation, if he had spoken to the MP concerned and if he would be taking further action.

No response was received by press time last night, although Progressive Labour Party spokesman Wentworth Christopher did say that he would be making inquiries into the police investigation.
