Goat reaches double century

Shaun Goater passed another milestone on a career path filled with highlights on Saturday when he scored the 200th goal of his professional career.

Goater took just 60 seconds to reach the landmark during Reading?s First Division clash with Derby County, the 33-year-old driving home a powerful header.

He struck again after 51 minutes, this time in unusual circumstances ? unusual that is for Goater, the player sending a free kick screaming past the Rams? goalkeeper.

And the Bermudian came close to claiming a hat-trick when his shot was beaten away by the ?keeper late on.

Reading skipper Adie Williams wore a vest under his shirt during the match displaying the words ?The Goat ? 200 ? Ledge? in tribute to Goater?s legendary status, albeit more so at Manchester City than Reading.

However, if he continues to build on his performance on Saturday, arguably the best since he moved south from Manchester in the summer, he could well become a folk hero at the Madejski Stadium too.

?I?m delighted,? said Williams, paying tribute to Goater on Reading?s official website. ?From the first minute we really had a go and The Goat got his 200th league goal. You don?t do that every week and I was really pleased for him.?

Williams said that Goater was the kind of player that would score goals wherever he was.

?He?s done that for a long time and done it at the highest level,? he said. ?People say this and that about him but he?s got a fantastic touch, he brings others into play and I am so pleased for him.

?As a defender I?m not always concerned with who scored but I?m delighted for Goats to get his 200th League goal and he totally deserved it.?

Reading boss Steve Coppell also took time out to praise Goater.

?We sensed in training he was looking sharp,? he said. ?He had the eye of the tiger and we?re coming to the cutting-edge time of the season when you need your key players to be on fire. He is key for us and it was great to see him score and have an impact.?
