Serjunnae scores motocross first
Young Serjunnae Burgess created a sensation at Coney Island Raceway when she became the first girl to win a race in the 50cc class on Sunday.
But, elsewhere, it was business as usual as Jont? Smith and Drake Simmons recorded a hat-trick of victories in the 65cc and 85cc classes to cement their leading positions after the second round of racing.
Burgess, racing on a Cobra bike, beat Sanjay Fostin in the opening race of their class but failed to make the start line for the next two motos because of mechanical problems, which effectively gifted Fostin the race day.
There was keen racing in the 125 B class where Aaron Cannonier swept to victory in the first two motos but had to settle for fourth in the third. Shakai Easton, second in the first moto, rebounded from a disappointing eighth in the second to salvage his day by beating the surprising Jimmy-Lee Weaver into second place in the final moto. Enwar Hunt had a consistent series with fourth, second and third to finish the day on par with Easton, with 30 points.
The 125 C class saw Kyle Tavares capture the final moto to finish as points leader for the day. But the most popular development for the spectators was Melanie Munro's wire-to-wire victory in the second moto.
This spirited her to a third-place finish on the day, after placing eighth in the first race and a creditable third in the finale. Kyle Tavares was the class winner with two firsts and a third with Letroy Trott second.
