Hood continue hot start

Robin Hood continued their impressive start to the new Commercial League season with a 3-0 win away to Lobster Pot on Saturday to stay hot on the heels of the leaders in the A Division.

Hood, who beat BAA Wanderers, their arch-rivals, in their previous match, trail Key West Rangers by five on goal difference, after the leaders notched their third consecutive victory.

Alan Mooney opened the scoring in the 13th minute against Pot and Colin Scaife made the result safe for Hood, who have yet to concede a league goal, when he scored in the 31st minute. Mooney's second came with 13 minutes remaining to confirm a shocking start to the campaign for Pot, beaten 5-0 by MR Onions in the opening fixture.

Key West were too strong for PHC Raiders, winning 4-1 at Somerset Cricket Club. Vernal Cann gave Key West a 15th-minute lead but they had to wait until the 58th minute to confirm their superiority when Joey Weeks scored. Sergio Griffin, a substitute, netted in the 67th minute and Jason Robinson turned the match into a rout with a 78th-minute penalty. Wendall Simmons scored in the last minute for the home team.

BAA Wanderers recovered from two defeats begin their league campaign with a 2-1 win away to North Village Rams. BAA led from a Thomas Gribbin goal in the 34th minute but Shervin Hollis responded within eight minutes for Village. Martin Jones scored in the 79th minute to give BAA maximum points.

MR Onions and Tuff Dogs played to a 2-2 draw at Shelly Bay field, all the goals coming in a busy first half. Rael Coen and Andy Robinson netted for Onions while Kevin Mooney and Jamal Lovell were on the scoresheet for Tuff Dogs.

The remaining A Division fixture, at BAA field, saw Vasco Mariners fall to a surprising 2-0 defeat to Cable & Wireless. Mike Smith scored in the 13th minute for the visiting team with Blaine Tucker, a half-time substitute, on target in the last minute.

B Division action saw St. George's All-Stars romp to a 7-0 win over Bermuda Pest Control, with Morris O'Brien and Joseph Foggo grabbing two goals apiece. William Richardson, Milton Jones and Michael Denbrook were the other goalscorers.

Kevin Isaac netted a hat-trick and Valley International broke open a close match after half-time to beat Wolves Pack 6-3. Isaac, a prolific scorer over the past decade, found the target in the 18th and 23rd minutes to put Valley in charge but Horace Landy netted the first of his two in the 34th minute to keep Wolves interested.

However, an own goal conceded 11 minutes into the second half appeared to have a debilitating effect on Wolves as Isaac (76th) and Earl Pringle (78th) notched in quick succession to open a 5-1 lead. Keith DeShields pulled one back for Wolves in the 79th minute but Pringle redressed the balance in the 81st before Landy provided the final consolation with a minute to go.

Prospect Fire outlasted Devonshire Lions 5-3 at Devonshire Recreation Club, led by a brace from Dean Martin. David Kinnersley, Paul Fenwick and substitute Neil Tunnacliffe were the other Prospect scorers while Chris Pitcher (2) and Arthur Sinclair netted for Lions, who had Andre Weeks sent off.
