Heard at the double
Ravens racked up a 4-0 win over Canaries last Saturday to climb to the top of the women?s B league after securing four wins in five games this season.
While the first half of this match was scoreless, Ravens caught fire in the second with Alex Wheatley starting the goal drive with a successful short corner conversion in 38th minute.
Anna Heard was to add two open play goals to that tally while Charda Simmons chipped in for one in the shutout.
Meanwhile, B league rivals Swallows fell 4-1 to a strong Swifts team.
An open play goal from Angela Dunstan saw Swifts go first on the board before the break but Swallows managed to draw level before the whistle with Sinead Quinn finding the net.
Swifts took over the second half of the match, however, notching three open play goals ? courtesy of Ashley Fox, Keishae Robinson and Jasmine Patterson.
Sunday?s B league match saw Bluebirds take a 2-1 win over Cardinals.
Bluebirds captain Eva Dillas opened the scoring in the seventh minute of play and the score was to remain at 1-0 well into the second half until Jen White converted a penalty corner for Cardinals to draw them even.
Bluebird Liz Wright put the match away with a successful short corner in the 55th minute, however.
Ravens now top the B table with 12 points followed by Swallows and Bluebirds who are tied at ten. Swifts are in fourth with six points and Wildcats trail with three while Canaries and Cardinals ? both winless to date ? have no points.
In A league play, Swallows remain undefeated after securing a 2-0 result against Swifts off goals from Jenny Burrell and Joann Wilson. Meanwhile Canaries and Ravens battled to a 1-1 draw last Saturday with Emily Black scoring for Ravens and Mary-ellen Jackson drawing Canaries even.
In men?s play, Panthers battled Polecats to a 3-1 result.
Matt Spencer fired away two goals and Jonathan White one in the winning effort while Simon Farrington scored Polecats? lone goal. Also on Sunday, Chameleons earned a 6-1 result against Rebels with Jonathan Dodd getting a hat-trick while Mark Finnegan added two and Billy Spencer one for the win.
