Doubt still remains over Kenni Thompson’s availability for Bermuda’s two remaining group matches in group C of the Concacaf W Championship qualifiers, which take place in two weeks time.

Naquita Robinson, the head coach, said all the players who participated in the first two matches have made themselves available for the matches against group leaders Dominican Republic on April 8 and then at home to bottom team Grenada four days later in Bermuda, in what will be the team’s only home fixture in the group stage.

Robinson confirmed, however, that England-based Kenni Thompson has not made herself available.

Thompson was not selected for Bermuda’s first two matches against Jamaica and Cayman Islands in February after she expressed her desire to concentrate on playing for her professional team, London City Lionesses.

Robinson said at the time that she hoped Thompson would be available for the two matches in April.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Thompson’s availability, Robinson is urging fans to come out to support the team who are third in the tables and still in with a chance of a top-two finish.

“Very excited about these next two matches, especially the home match,” Robinson said.

“Preparation has been along the same lines as in the first two matches. Having the home crowd for our final match, which could play a huge role in our chances to qualify for the next round, will be vitally important.

“We anticipate it’s a very tough match against the group leaders, Dominican Republic, but have total faith that our players are up for the challenge.”

That match will get under way at 8pm at the Estadio Olympico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, while the home match against Grenada will start at 7pm at the National Sports Centre on April 12.

Tickets for the Bermuda v Grenada match are available at Ptix.bm. They will also be available at the BFA Office and Pro Shop. Tickets cost $20 for seniors & children and $30 for adults.

VIP tickets will also be available. Early bird tickets ($10 senior/children, $20 for adult) will be available online Ptix.bm for a limited period.

Bermuda bounced back with a 6-0 win over Cayman Islands in Florida, after losing to Jamaica 4-0 in Kingston in their previous matches in the qualifiers.

∎ Bermuda national team player LeiLanni Nesbeth will have a new coach at Florida State University next season after the university’s Director of Athletics Michael Alford, announced yesterday that head coach Mark Kirkorian had resigned his post with immediate effect.

“Coach Krikorian has done a remarkable job over his tenure here and all Florida State alumni and supporters deeply appreciate not only what he has accomplished in terms of championships, but the calibre of graduates he has produced,” said Alford. “We all wish him and his family well.

“We have the best women’s soccer programme in the country and we will identify and pursue the best coach for our programme. We have committed resources that are second to none and will continue to invest in the student-athlete experience.”

Florida State president Richard McCullough also praised Krikorian for the success he had with the Seminoles, including winning the NCAA National Championship last December in California.

“We’re saddened that coach Krikorian will be leaving FSU,” McCullough said.

“He is one of the most successful coaches in collegiate women’s soccer history, and we are grateful for his years of service, his dedication to our student-athletes, and the glory he brought to our university.

“We wish him all the best in the future as we look forward to our soccer programme’s continued success.”
