Driver arrested for being more than double the legal limit

Police insisted that the public “must do better” after arrests for criminal and traffic offences, including eight drink driving arrests, were made at the holiday weekend.

The criticism, which was made over the police service’s social media platforms, said that arrests were made for offences such as knife possession and dangerous driving despite warnings of heightened police presence.

It added that the highest breathalyser reading was 197 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood – more than double the legal limit of 80mg/100ml.

Other offences included speeding, driving an unlicensed vehicle, driving without a driver’s licence, driving without insurance, and failing to stop for police.

A Facebook post made on Saturday announced many of the arrests and warned that “where you spend [the holiday weekend] is up to you”.

A follow up post made yesterday warned of the drink driving arrests.

It added: “Come on, Bermuda, we must do better.”
