Roads ban and fine for man who refused Breathalyser test

Magistrates’ Court

A man who refused to be breathalysed after a road accident was banned this week from the roads for 18 months.

Trovaughn Smith, 35, from Devonshire, admitted to the charge when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard that police attended a single-vehicle collision on Pitts Bay Road on November 20.

They saw Smith inside the car, which had its engine running and had a broken windshield.

His speech was slurred when talking with officers and he almost lost his balance when getting out of the car, the court was told.

In addition to being banned, Smith was fined $1,200 and was given until January 31 to pay.
