The Corporation of Hamilton will temporarily move its administrative offices out of City Hall this month for renovations to take place.

According to a spokeswoman, the City’s services will relocate to a space across from Point House, near the ferry terminal, starting on January 16.

The spokeswoman said: “Services affected [will] include EasyPark top-ups and parking voucher purchases, collection of disabled parking permits, insurance and City tax payments, tender collection and drop-offs and any other administrative services offered to the public.”

She said 15-minute parking bays would be set up near the temporary offices.

Starting on January 11, all corporation board and committee meetings, which are normally held in the Mayor’s parlour, will be held in the training room at the City Works Depot, on Laffan Street.

In order to transition to the new location, the City Hall office will be closed on January 13.

The City’s assistant engineer, Chris Bulley, said that because the building is more than 60 years old, its plumbing, electrical and ventilation systems need to be replaced.

“[While doing this], we will also take the opportunity to reconfigure and upgrade the interior office space to better suit the administrative needs of the City,” he said.

The Bermuda National Gallery, the Bermuda Society of Arts and the Earl Cameron Theatre will remain open during the renovations, which are expected to finish by the end of April.

The corporation will move back into City Hall when work is completed.
