Town in hunt for league top spot

Dandy Town midfielder Damon Ming insists that his side are determined to make sure that they get the same result against league leaders Boulevard tomorrow as they did on the first day of the season, a 2-0 win at St. John's Field, and keep pace with the front runners.

Many things have changed since the sides last met, with coach Andrew Bascome leaving the club and Blazers no longer welcome at St. John's Road, yet league positions have remained the same.

That can change with a Hornets win, with the club only two points behind tomorrow's opponents, and depending on how others get on can see them take over top spot for the first time this season.

Ming acknowledged the magnitude of the match with crucial matches against Somerset Eagles and Devonshire Cougars on the horizon, and the opportunity lying in front of his side with their rivals returning key players from injury to add to the anticipation of the whistle.

"It is a big game for both sides, not just the fact that it is the game of the week but also the implications riding on the game for us," said Ming. "It is going to be a test but we are up to the challenge.

"We have had good numbers out this week for training, and everyone has really come together as a unit.

"It is a crucial match and if we can get a good result than we will be right where we want to be against the top teams.

"The match will be a battle, they have a few key players coming back from injury so it should be a good game, but like I said we are only worried about what we have to do and take care of business on our end."

Town were the most consistent side in the league in the run up to the winter break, winning three of their last four matches and conceding just five goals while scoring 13, giving them the best goal difference in the league.

While the league won't be decided until March, Dandy Town's title ambitions could be alive or all but over by the end of the month, something Ming and his teammates are well aware of.

Regardless of the opposition the side face, the speedy winger is adamant that they will not let go of anything less then maximum points without a serious fight.

"We have been playing good football until the end of the first half and want to continue with that form," he said. "Hopefully if we can work for one another and put in that extra bit of effort, we will get the result we want and make inroads at the top of the table.

"Our mindset is to drop no points, whether it be against those at the bottom or those at the top. We just need to come out and play our style of football and get some good results that can have us remain in the title race.
