Monday deadline for Police applications Bermuda Police Service last night reminded those interested in joining the force as part of a recent recruitment drive that their applications need to be in by Monday (October 30).

A spokesman said the campaign in the media to attract new officers had led to “many interested individuals” contacting the service. He added: “Applications can still be picked up from the recruitment officer at Police headquarters in Prospect, Devonshire, or from any Police station.”

The theme of this year’s event was “imagination” and pupils took part in an array of activities to hone their problem solving skills.

They included pupils trying to keep eggs intact when dropped from a great height, building crazy golf holes using maths skills, making models of imaginary organisms of the future and using computer software to make short movies, all entitled “Imagine if there weren’t any—”.

Cathie Marshall, from the school’s development office, said: “The role that imagination plays in maths and science is not given the prominence it deserves.

“Many of the technological wonders that we have today are the result of someone saying: ‘what if?’ and letting their mind run free.

“The nature of the activities is not really any different to what happens in maths and science lessons at BHS on a day-to-day basis, except that the activities are undertaken on a grander and more celebratory scale.”Garden Club unearths Christmas card imageIt may only be October — but the Garden Club of Bermuda is already thinking festive.

The club has chosen its Christmas card image, which will be the picture used on the 35 cent stamp in the new festive series recently issued by the General Post Office.

The stamp and card show a fresh Bermuda foliage Christmas wreath hanging on the cedar door of the Horticultural Hall in the Botanical Gardens. It was designed and constructed by club member, Deborah Burville and photographed for printing by her son, Royal Gazette <$>photographer, Chris Burville. Cards and notelets cost $15.00 for a box of ten and can be bought through Bermuda Garden Club members.
