The boss of one of the world’s largest travelling fashion shows has arrived in Bermuda for a fundraising event.

Linda Johnson Rice, of the internationally renowned Ebony Fashion Fair, was introduced by Premier Ewart Brown at a press conference yesterday.

The company’s “Stylishly Hot” show has travelled to more than 180 cities in the US and Canada, and is poised to wrap up its tour on the Island as a fundraiser for the Progressive Labour Party and the Continental Society.

Unveiling Mrs. Rice, Dr. Brown said: “If only all of us could be as visionary as Linda Johnson Rice.”The Premier said that for the past five years Mrs. Rice had been president and CEO of Johnson Publishing, which publishes Ebony and Jet magazines and is known for producing positive African-American images.

The company was founded by her father John Johnson several decades ago.

“The entire Johnson family is to be considered a friend of this country,” said the Premier.

Mrs. Rice said: “We will bring you some of the most exciting fashions from across the world.”

The show will be held at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess tomorrow at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. and will feature the latest fashion styles by world-famous designers.

They include Vivienne Westwood, Caroline Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass and Jean Louise Scherer.

Tickets are still available and start from $100. They can be purchased from PLP headquarters in Court Street and 27th Century Boutique on Reid Street.

A subscription to either Jet or Ebony is included, as well as a chance to win round trip tickets on American Airlines. Thirteen glamour models, including a ‘full figured model’, as well as male models, will be on display sporting their designs and providing entertainment.

It has been heavily promoted on radio station KJAZ 98.1 FM which also held a Mother’s Day essay contest, won by Anthony Ferreira who also picked up tickets to the show.

“We launched the Mother’s Day contest with the idea of having mothers pampered,” said Venus Santucci, station music director and host of a Sunday gospel show, which organised the competition.
