Bermuda’s young Fed Cup tennis team tumbled to an expected 3-0 defeat when they met Ecuador in their opening match on clay courts at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club in Montevideo, Uruguay yesterday.

Jacklyn Lambert was beaten 6-2, 6-0 by Ecuador’s Claudia Hidalgo before Ashley Brooks went down 2-6, 3-6 to Claudine Paulson in the second singles match.

Ecuador were equally convincing in the doubles, Lorena Aviles and Paulson teaming up to beat Caitlin Gordon and Lambert 6-2, 6-0.

Competing in Pool A of the Americas Zone Group Two, Bermuda must also play Uruguay and Honduras this week.

In yesterday’s other Pool A match, the host nation defeated Honduras 3-0.
