Teen's horror film to premiere tonight
A horror film will bring the mangroves in Hungry Bay to life when it is screened tonight.
Nicholas Rinehimer, a 16-year-old Saltus student spent the past 18 months filming the 55-minute film, called ‘Crossed Paths’, which features students from schools across the Island.
Tonight will be the first screening of the film, at the Goslings Wine Cellar, on Elliot Street, and tickets have almost sold out, but Mr. Rinehimer hopes he will be able to screen it again later in the summer. “It is 55 minutes and then there are about five minutes of bloopers,” he said. “We shot it in the mangroves because it was different basing it there and the setting fit well with a horror film.
“It was kind of creepy there. We saw the giant land crabs and had herons flying around. We began thinking there might be people in there.”
A second screening this summer will hopefully lead to a showing at the Bermuda International Film Festival next year as well as different film festivals in the US and Canada.
The film is based on the character Lucy, played by Anna Clark, who has lost her cousin. When the Police fail to find her, Lucy decides to investigate the disappearance.
Friends join her on the trip only to find themselves separated from each other and plagued by eerie incidents along the way.
Mr. Rinehimer, who directed, wrote and filmed most of the movie, said films could be his future career though he is also interested in biology and physics.
“We choose to screen it on Friday because it’s Friday the 13th and it made sense. Unfortunately there are not a huge amount of tickets left,” added Mr. Rinehimer.
