A bill to tighten up hotel security was tabled in the House of Assembly last Friday.

The Hotels (Licensing and Control) Amendment Act 2007 will authorise the crime prevention unit to issue security guidelines to hotel operators.

The bill would also apply to tourists staying on boats. Compliance would be enforced through hotel inspectors with the doubling of penalties for offences under the Act.
