Pat Gordon-Pamplin apologises to Speaker Lowe

Patricia Gordon Pamplin

The recently appointed Deputy Opposition Leader offered a public apology to the Speaker of the House during a session of the House of Assembly Friday.

Patricia Gordon-Pamplin said sorry after being ejected from the House on March 10 before the body adjourned into a spring recess. She was kicked out after telling Speaker Stanley Lowe "you need to grow up".

On Friday she said: "Mr. Speaker, with reference to my ejection from the House, I wish to express my regret concerning the circumstances that caused that event to occur, and that offense was taken. I acknowledge that disrespect to the position of Speaker is inappropriate and I am apologetic for any appearance that I engaged in such behaviour. I look forward to resuming my duties as representative of Paget West, and trust that this matter is now behind us, with a renewed commitment to respect that flows both ways."

The ejection two months ago happened at 5:00 a.m. during a marathon session of the House of Assembly which ended in the wee hours. Mrs. Gordon-Pamplin was in a heated exchange with Government MP Glenn Blakeney.

At the time the Shadow Minister of Finance was not Deputy Opposition Leader.

Mr. Blakeney had accused her of leaking information to the Press about the Public Accounts Committee Report concerning the Bermuda College. At one point Mrs. Gordon-Pamplin said in her spirited defence of her reputation: "I'm like Dracula, I come alive at night."
