Stevens, Eyton lead Invitation

Mid Ocean Club’s 23rd Ladies Invitation Tournament finally got underway yesterday after delays caused by the early week bad weather.

Several players had been struggling to get to Bermuda because of cancelled flights from the US.

The tournament is now being played over 54 holes with yesterday’s first round witnessing defending champions Cora Williams Rogers and Martina Bradford begining with a net 74 on another day made difficult by strong winds.

Elaine Stevens and June Eyton are both the net and gross leaders after posting a net 67 and gross 82.

The event sees a number of long standing partnerships who have played in the tournament every year since its inception, such as club president Shirley James and her partner Carol Harrison who fired respectable net 74 yesterday despite a disappointing 12 on the notorious fifth hole.

The second round will be played today.
