Woman banned from roads after crash in Hamilton Parish
A woman who injured a motorist in Hamilton Parish has been disqualified from driving all vehicles for more than two years.
Eveline Simons, 66, admitted causing Staleina Franks grievous bodily harm by driving a car without care and attention when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court last year.
Simons, from Hamilton Parish, also admitted leaving the scene of the collision, failing to report it and not providing her name and address after the incident.
Simons, who reappeared in court yesterday for sentencing, struck Ms Franks’s bike while she was trying to make a right turn from North Shore Road to Radnor Estate Road on May 14, 2023.
Simons continued driving after the collision, which left Ms Franks with a fractured hip.
Prosecutor Seth Levine suggested that Simons be sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for 12 months, for the offence.
Aqueelah Simmons, Simons’s lawyer, said the collision happened because her client had a seizure at the wheel.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson fined Simons $2,000 and disqualified her from driving all vehicles for two years in connection with the careless driving offence.
Ms Anderson fined Simons $250 for each of the other offences, added 15 points to her licence and disqualified her from driving for a further seven months.
