A container ship bound for Malaysia stopped by Bermuda this week after a crew member was injured on board.

An incident report stated that the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre received a satellite call from the captain of the Maltese-registered Theseus on Tuesday afternoon, stating that the ship wished to divert to the island.

The captain explained that one of the crew members had suffered a suspected broken leg and needed to receive medical treatment at a hospital.

“The vessel was on passage from Baltimore, USA bound for Port Klang, Malaysia,” the report said.

“The vessel arrived offshore in Bermuda Waters on June 11 at 7am, the 46-year-old Filipino crew member was safely transferred to Ordnance Island by the Pilot/Rescue Boat St David and taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.”
