Senior briefly arrested at Pride
The celebration of Bermuda Pride 2025 on Saturday brought crowds into Hamilton for performances and speeches at Victoria Park and a march through the City — but one attendee protesting the event got held by police.
A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said the incident occurred at about 4.50pm, when officers monitoring the celebrations at Victoria Park encountered “a verbal dispute between a lone male protester holding a placard and a few event attendees”.
He added: “Despite attempts to defuse the situation, the lone protester, understood to be a 74-year-old St George’s man, did not comply with those efforts, or subsequent police instructions to leave the park.
“As a result of his verbally aggressive behaviour, the lone protester was arrested, to prevent any further breach of the peace.
“However, as no official complaints were made, he was warned regarding his behaviour and released from police custody later that same day.”
Organisers of the event declined to comment on the matter.
