Michael Branco has been sworn in as the Corporation of Hamilton’s newest councillor after he won a municipal election this month.

A spokeswoman for the City said that a swearing-in ceremony was held for the businessman last week, when he took the oath of office while surrounded by family.

Charles Gosling, the Mayor of Hamilton, said: “We’re delighted to have Michael on the team.

“He brings extensive knowledge, experience and professionalism to the role, and I have no doubt he will serve the City with dedication and integrity.”

The spokeswoman noted that Mr Branco had previously served on several City committees.

Mr Branco defeated Mia Chambray by a vote of 60 to 28 in a municipal election held after the passing of Lawrence “Larry” Scott last month.

After the election, he told The Royal Gazette: “Because I’ve sat on several committees I think that I’ve proved myself over the years and that’s what gave people the confidence to vote for me.”

As well as the mayor, Mr Branco joined fellow councillors Nicholas Swan, John Harvey, Dennis Tucker, Jenefer Brimmer, George Scott, Shawn Brown, and RoseAnn Edwards to oversee administration of the City.
