Loren Group donates old furniture to Salvation Army
The Salvation Army has been presented with a trove of outdoor furniture and household items from a shuttered South Shore hotel.
The charity revealed on its website salvationarmy.ca that the new owners of the hotel had reached out to donate the items, which will benefit its residential programmes.
The Loren Group acquired Elbow Beach Hotel this year and plans to redevelop the historic resort, which has been closed since 2020.
Staff from the company, which also acquired Fritholme Garden Residences at the same Paget location, found chairs and other furniture items in good condition when they were emptying hotel rooms.
Billy Dixon, from The Loren Group, said: “Instead of throwing this stuff out, we wanted to give others a chance to use it.”
Mr Dixon, a Texas native, added: “I saw the amount of good [The Salvation Army] did for the community back home, so we knew they would do the best with it.”
Chandra-Lee Bascome, The Salvation Army Bermuda’s assistant executive director of social services, said: “We absolutely always appreciate donations and just the idea that The Loren even thought of us says a lot.
“We received outdoor patio furniture, lamps, three mini-fridges and, thanks to the donation, each of our five rooms at Harbour Light [on King Street] have clock radios ... it is all good, high-quality furniture.”
Captain Dennis Maybury, the public relations officer for Salvation Army Bermuda, thanked The Loren for the donations and said the charity hoped to continue working with the company.
