Bermuda to play Antigua in Concacaf Under-15 Championships
Bermuda will be hoping to make a bright start against Antigua & Barbuda in their first match at the Concacaf Under-15 Championships in Aruba today (noon).
Vashun Blanchette’s players will need to be at their best to withstand the pressure of playing matches on consecutive days at Stadion CD Jose Wever in Oranjestad.
Bermuda’s second match in League B group E comes against Barbados on Tuesday, with the final preliminary round encounter taking place just 24 hours later against Trinidad & Tobago. The competition format includes a group stage followed by a direct elimination knockout round within each league.
With all the players taken to Curaçao two years ago now aged out, Blanchette had a fantastic opportunity to assess the new group when they took part in the Bermuda Triangle Cup a fortnight ago.
Playing as the National Academy Under-15 squad, the team finished third with their results including a resounding 5-0 victory over their under-17 counterparts.
Nuri Latham made a notable impression in the tournament to win the Golden Glove Award. The Preston North End Academy goalkeeper faces stiff competition for the spot from Xavier Thomas-Bassett, who also showed his qualities as the two were rotated during that competition.
Kaiyuri Albouy, Z'Ani Jennings, Chaz Edmead, Zydon Lightbourne-Furbert and Jèon Wolfe are expected to play a big part if Bermuda are to succeed at the tournament.
