Island Pantry seeks new home
Island Pantry has temporarily closed its doors to find a new location, after four years on Serpentine Road, Pembroke.
The bakery and grocery store, part of the Take Five Group, had to move when the building changed hands.
Take Five’s chief operating officer, Kentis Kishtoo, said: “Sadly, our lease was not renewed. We closed on August 2.”
He is asking people to contact him at Take Five if they know of a potential new home for Island Pantry, preferably in Hamilton and the same size as the Serpentine Road premises – around 1,500 sqft.
Mr Kishtoo said Island Pantry has been very successful since launching.
“People like it,” he said. “We were doing great.”
The place was particularly known for its fresh breads and pastries.
Regulars reacted to the closure with disappointment.
“I was there on the last day to speak with customers,” Mr Kishtoo said. “People were really sad.”
However, he said patrons will be able to get their pastry favourites at their new restaurant, One29, opening at 129 Front Street next week.
“We will try to bring some of our popular products, such as frozen meals, sandwiches, breads and pastries, into the new space on Front Street,” he said.
Mr Kishtoo did not know who the new owners of the Serpentine Road premises are, but thought they were planning to put offices there.
Island Pantry’s closure has caused some confusion among Take Five patrons.
“My phone has been ringing off the hook with people wanting to know why we are closing our restaurant Village Pantry in Flatts,” Mr Kishtoo said. “Village Pantry is not closing or moving, just Island Pantry.”
