Johnny Bart concludes ‘surreal experience’ in New Brunswick
Johnny Bart endured his toughest outing of the week in the final round of the Canadian Junior Boys Championship at Gowan Brae Golf Club in Bathurst, New Brunswick, yesterday.
The local golfer was hoping to make a late surge on the leaderboard heading into the round but had to be content with a six-over 78, his worst round of the 72-hole tournament, to finish tied for 73rd among the 156 players in the junior boys division at 22-over 302.
Bart carded two birdies, six bogeys and two doubles on his stroll around the 6,679-yard par-72 course.
He started his campaign on solid footing after carding an even-par 72 in the opening round, which he followed up with 75 in the second to make the 36-hole cut at seven over and 77 in the penultimate round.
“This whole experience has been surreal and I’m grateful that I get to compete against the best in the country,” Bart told The Royal Gazette.
The promising player arrived in Canada fresh from representing Bermuda at the Caribbean Amateur Junior Championships in Puerto Rico, where he finished thirteenth in the boys’ 18-and-under division.
Dawson Lew, from Ontario, achieved an impressive double, winning the junior boys and juvenile boys titles by four shots with an 11-under 269.
