Bailey’s Bay coach Gus Logie has announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Logie, who has been with Bay since April 2022, made the announcement in the wake of Bay being dethroned by Cleveland as Eastern Counties champions on Saturday.

“I need a break and I’m taking that break at the end of the season,” Logie told The Royal Gazette.

“This is about me taking a break from the club scene just to relax myself. My body needs a break, I’m not getting any younger and I need time for myself and my family.

“I’ll be there for the remaining matches, but once they are completed, it’s a good opportunity to say thank you.

“It’s unfortunate that we just lost in the Eastern Counties and I was hoping that we would have had a better season, but as far as I’m concerned I’ve given a few good years to Bay.

“It’s about time they hear a different voice and possibly a new direction. I wish the club all the best going forward.”

Stephen Outerbridge, the Bay president, is unaware of the coach’s decision but was quick to mention that their relationship with the West Indies legend is the result of an agreement with FrayStar Cricket Institute.

“We don’t have a direct agreement with Gus Logie, we have an arrangement with FrayStar for the coach’s services until the end of the season,” Outerbridge said.

“That was the case for this season as his permit is with FrayStar and we asked for his services through them. We only contract our coaches.”

Logie confirmed that while he is stepping away from Bay, he will still be involved in shaping the future of the island’s cricket landscape.

“I’m still going to be involved in some youth development with FrayStar,” the 64-year-old said.

“I’ll channel my energy to working with younger players.”

In his first season, Logie made an immediate impact by toppling St David’s as Eastern Counties, a status they retained until last Saturday.

He also secured the club’s first Premier Division 50 Overs title in 11 years when they sealed the title in 2023, when they also went on to share the Knockout Cup trophy with Cleveland.

Last season, they topped the T20 Premier Division before losing in the knockout semi-final to St George’s, who went on to overcome Cleveland in the final.

“In the last three seasons we've won championships,” Logie said.

“This is the only season that we've been barren thus far, but winning trophies in three of four seasons ain’t that bad.”
