Members of the public can use their smartphones to report potholes throughout the island, the Ministry of Public Works and Environment announced today.

A spokesman said that the GovAlert app can be downloaded for free via the App Store and Google Play.

Jaché Adams, the public works and environment minister, said: “The launch of the GovAlert app demonstrates how technology can be harnessed to deliver real solutions for the people of Bermuda.

“We are empowering residents to report potholes directly from their phones and we are strengthening the partnership between the public and the ministry in maintaining safe and reliable roads.”

Users can submit photos of the pothole, pinpoint its precise location, track the status of their report and see where others were spotted on the island through the app.

Mr Adams added: “This initiative is part of our wider strategy to upgrade Bermuda’s infrastructure.

“Alongside the Government’s ongoing paving programme and the use of new equipment to resurface roads across the island, the app will help us respond more quickly and effectively to community concerns.”

Motorists were reminded to stop their vehicles safely before reporting potholes and not to use the app while driving.
