Caitlyn Bobb is determined to make the most of her last competition of the year when she runs in the women’s 400 metres heats at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, tomorrow (7.25am Bermuda time).

The 22-year-old, who is making her debut at the biennial athletics event, has to be at her best to secure qualification for the semi-finals on Tuesday. If she gets through that stage, this can set her up for the final on Thursday.

“I’m excited for this meet,” Bobb told The Royal Gazette.

“It’s the last one of the season and I look forward to good results. I’m going to give it my all as it is my last meet and most important.

“There are two rounds I need to get through to make it to the finals.”

It has been an exciting year for the Virginia-based athlete. In May, she clocked 51.11sec, a personal-best and Bermuda record, when winning the 400 at the Atlantic Conference Championships.

Bobb reached the final at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Championships in Freeport, Bahamas, last month.

However, she did not take part in that race, as she hopped on a flight to compete at the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay, where she clinched a silver medal.

From Paraguay, the rising star headed back to Virginia, before arriving in Japan last Saturday.

“My preparations here have been the same since I arrived in Tokyo,” she said.

“When you prepare for big competitions, you don’t need to switch anything up. You carry on as usual doing what works for you.”

Bobb is being supported by a Bermuda National Athletics Association delegation led by president Freddie Evans, general secretary Mia Bean and Jarita Vickers, the treasurer.

Another Bermudian, Donna Raynor, who is attending the World Athletics Congress as a member of the global athletics governing body’s council, has also indicated that she will be rooting for the young athlete when she hits the track at Japan National Stadium.
