Trey Mallory eliminated in Turkey
Trey Mallory was left disappointed after his first-round exit from the M15 Kayseri in Turkey on Wednesday.
Mallory went down 7-6, 6-3 to Aldin Setkic, of Serbia. The Bermudian felt that he should have seized the moment in the first set against the 37-year-old.
“I’m really disappointed by the outcome of the match,” Mallory said. “Mainly because I felt I had a great chance of taking the first set, which possibly could have changed things.
“I found it a little hard coping with the altitude, but I don’t make excuses, as both of us has to play in it. I feel with his experience as a former world No 165 player, he was able to deal with it a little better.
“My dad always tells me to reflect on my losses and look back at the things I could have done differently. That is something we’ve discussed after the match.”
The 23-year-old, who graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in May, is pinning his hopes on securing funding that would enable him to play more competitive tennis.
“I plan on going back to Florida and doing a one-month training block.
“Hopefully, I can find some funding to play three back-to-back ITF pro events, either in Egypt or Greece, as I have ATP points to defend.”
