Police: Ja’Dore Wilson may be harboured by others
Missing 15-year-old Ja’Dore Wilson may be staying away from home voluntarily and with the help of another, police said today.
Detective Chief Inspector Derricka Burns called on the public, especially those with teenagers and young adults, to check their homes and properties.
She also told people who had knowledge or even a suspicion of the teenager’s whereabouts to “do the right thing” and come forward.
Ms Burns said: “Keeping a minor from her family, regardless of intention, can be dangerous and may carry legal and emotional consequences.
“This child’s safety is our No 1 priority.”
Ja’Dore was last seen on the morning of September 17 at her home on North Terrace, Pembroke.
This morning, officers canvassed the Friswell’s Hill area of Pembroke, as well as other areas the 15-year-old was known to frequent, but did not receive any new information.
Ms Burns reminded anyone allowing Ja’Dore to remain hidden that they not only put the child at greater risk of harm but could potentially face criminal charges.
A person convicted of harbouring a minor can be punished by a fine of up to $3,000 or imprisonment for up to six months.
Ms Burns said: “Anyone who is knowingly allowing Ja’Dore Wilson to remain hidden, even under the belief that they are helping her, is potentially interfering with a missing persons investigation.
“Doing so not only puts her at greater risk, but could also result in criminal charges depending on the circumstances.
“This child is 15. She is vulnerable and any adult or peer who thinks they are protecting her by keeping her hidden is doing the opposite.
“We are pleading for compassion, responsibility and action.”
Dennis Astwood, the Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, said earlier: “While there so far has been no indication that Ja’Dore is in any danger, the fact that she is a minor and has not been seen in almost two weeks is cause for grave concern.
“Ja’Dore’s loved ones are anxious for her safe return.”
Ja’Dore is described as having a light complexion, being 5ft 4in and about 175lb, with black-and-blonde hair past her shoulders.
She is still believed to be travelling mainly by foot.
Anyone with any information about the whereabouts of Ja’Dore was urged to contact Detective Inspector Kenten Trott by calling 717-2345 or e-mailing kenten.trott@bps.bm.
The public may also call 211 or the main police number, 295-0011.
