Police contend with three burglaries during storm
Burglars appear to have taken advantage of Hurricane Imelda’s passage to conduct three break-ins, including two targeting jewellers in Hamilton.
Officers attended the Gem Cellar on Reid Street shortly after 3.30pm yesterday, when a break-in was reported between 3pm on Wednesday and 3pm the next day while the establishment was closed for the storm.
Jewellery of unknown value was removed by a suspect caught on camera, described as 5ft 9in in height, wearing a blue sweater and dark-coloured pants along with a helmet and a pair of gloves.
Also yesterday, at 9.30am, Crisson’s on Queen Street reported a burglary likely between 1.55am and 3.30am that day, during the height of Hurricane Imelda.
A police spokesman said suspects escaped with “a large quantity of jewellery and watches from the store’s display cases, as well as a quantity of cash”.
The total value of the missing items is unknown.
It came after the MarketPlace supermarket at Shelly Bay in Hamilton Parish reported a burglary at 8.30am, also believed to coincide with Imelda.
Suspects, who broke into an office and removed cash and other valuables, were caught on the store’s CCTV wearing black helmets, dark-coloured jackets and gloves.
The criminal investigations unit asked anyone who might have information to contact Detective Inspector Tiffany Caisey at 717-2294 or via e-mail at tcaisey@bps.bm.
