Tropical Storm Jerry considered a potential threat to island
Tropical Storm Jerry has now been deemed a potential threat to Bermuda.
The Bermuda Weather Service said in its 6pm update today that the storm was expected to morph into a Category 1 hurricane by Sunday evening when it was at its closest point to the island.
The BWS warned that much of the storm’s influence would be seen on Saturday because wave troughing to the south of the island would increase as Jerry moved closer.
The service added that skies would be cloudy for “much of the weekend”, with heavy widespread rain and showers on Saturday that could become thunderous.
Tropical Storm Jerry is just under 1,365 miles south-southeast of Bermuda and is moving west-northwest at about 23mph.
It is travelling with maximum winds of about 58mph and gusts of about 69mph.
Jerry is expected to grow into a Category 1 hurricane by 3pm on Friday and will be about 399 miles south-southeast of Bermuda at 6pm on Sunday, when the storm is expected to be at it closest point to the island in 72 hours.
