PHC goalkeeper Quinaceo Hunt scored a freak 87th-minute free kick to salvage a point for his side against Dandy Town in the Premier Division at Devonshire Recreation Club last night.

Hunt took the set-piece from his own half and launched a long ball to the other end. It took an awkward bounce and went over a badly positioned Jahquil Hill into the net.

“It was my first goal in open play,” Hunt told The Royal Gazette.

“I have scored before in a penalty shoot-out, but I had never scored in open play.”

Town had taken the lead through Jahkari Furbert in the 61st minute after dominating the second half.

Jarreau Hayward’s side moved to the top of the standings with seven points, a point above X-Roads, who play champions North Village tomorrow.

After a tedious first half characterised by rough tackles from both sides, Town came alive in the second 45.

In the 52nd minute, a great ball from Danté Leverock found David Jones, whose effort came off the upright.

Town opened the scoring just after the hour mark. Hunt came off his line to push out Jones’s effort but Furbert pounced on the rebound and fired the ball into the roof of the net.

In the 69th minute, Leverock made a great block to push substitute Chance Eve's shot out for a corner.

A great exchange of passes between Jones and Tomiko Goater created a chance for Town to double their advantage but the captain could not keep his effort down.

Town were left to rue those missed chances when Hunt equalised in the dying minutes.

A minute after conceding in bizarre circumstances, Hill recovered to keep the ball out using his feet to deny Arnezha Astwood.

Goater could have won it at the other end when he rounded Hunt, but took too long shooting, allowing PHC captain Daren Usher to get into a perfect position to stop the ball from crossing the line.
