Hamilton Parish forfeit match against St David’s
Hamilton Parish forfeited their First Division match against St David’s Warriors at Lords on Sunday as a player shortage continues to take its toll.
Parish were unable to field a team owing to the unavailability of players and forfeited the match with their opponents being awarded a 3-0 result.
“We didn’t have enough players to field a team with a few having work commitments and another a family emergency,” coach Makhail Saltus told The Royal Gazette.
Parish have struggled with numbers after losing nearly 20 players since the end of last season. They also lost the services of coach Sergio Goater to Robin Hood.
The club suffered heavy 15-0 and 6-0 losses against Southampton Rangers and Vasco da Gama heading into their match with St David’s and pulled out of the FA Cup citing a lack of match fitness.
In the match of the day, Somerset Trojans recorded an impressive 2-0 win over ten-man Southampton Rangers at Southampton Oval. Kymani McNeil and Leo Burgess scored the goals against the home team who finished the game a man short after Kevon Douglas received his marching orders in the second half.
Trojans coach Danvers Seymour Jr was thrilled to come away with the points.
“We are delighted with the result and performance but won’t get too ahead of ourselves as the season is still young,” he told The Royal Gazette.
“Rangers have been our biggest challenge thus far, so that was an important three points. They were organised and threatening but I feel we did well to contain their experienced attack.”
Elsewhere on Sunday, Robin Hood came from three goals down at half time to edge Wolves at Police Field. Former North Village and national team striker Keishen Bean led the away side’s charge with a hat-trick and Samuel Carolo grabbed their other. Sergio Richardson, Antonio Wade and Khiari Sharrieff-Hayward replied for Wolves.
“In the first half we were very slow and pretty much allowed them to play because we was standing off so much,” Hood coach Goater said.
“At the half I had to light a fire underneath my players and tell them to be more aggressive and match their intensity — and that’s what they dodid.
“They just have to know they have to bring that second half performance to every game.”
The weekend’s remaining match saw Somerset Eagles romp to a convincing 4-0 win over ten-man Vasco at White Hill Field on Saturday. Nathan Rego scored twice with Zico Saltus-Seymour and Hubert Butterfield also getting on the scoresheet.
Vasco were reduced to ten man when Ludgero Araujo Soares was sent off in the second half.
