Entries are still open for the tennis tournament celebrating the legacy of William Ernest Rudolph Joell, one of the sports pioneers in Bermuda.

But with confirmed players on the low side, Michael Wolfe, the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association president, has encouraged potential competitors to register for an event slated for November 3 to 9.

“Our entries are closing at 5pm on Friday and it’s not too late to sign up,” Wolfe said.

“We are hoping that the weather doesn't have an impact on the matches and the facility. We are starting at 4pm on Monday, November 3 and go all the way to November 9.

“This adult tournament will determine the top end-of-year rankings for men and women.”

According to Wolfe, some of the island’s top junior players have registered. These include 12-year-old Chloe McBrearty, who is fresh from winning an under-14 tournament in Florida, as she seeks to test her skill against the adults.

Tobiah Goodchild, the winner of the Back to School tennis tournament last month, has also registered, together with another rising star, Jadon Spriggs, the Pomander Gate men’s B division champion.
