Absentee balloting legislation brought to the House of Assembly by the One Bermuda Alliance in September remains on the list of business for legislators as they head back to work today.

It comes after the Opposition was asked this week to withdraw the Absentee Voting Act 2025 to allow collaboration with the Government on the electoral reform, which has been pledged for September 2026.

Robert King, the Leader of the Opposition, insisted the debate would go ahead.

In addition, two pieces of housekeeping legislation are listed on the Orders of the Day: the Revenue Amendment Act 2025 and the Charities Amendment Act 2025.

David Burt, the Premier, is scheduled to address MPs on the island’s relief efforts for Jamaica in the wake of Hurricane Melissa last week.

Michael Weeks, the Minister of National Security, will speak on Bermuda’s hurricane responses this year. The Atlantic season technically concludes at the end of this month.

The island’s “housing crisis” will be the subject of an update by Zane DeSilva, the Deputy Premier and Minister of Housing and Municipalities.

Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, is to address the House on protection from the rodent-borne illness leptospirosis, which can infect pets and pose a threat to humans.

Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, will speak on measures to support the island’s workers.

Alexa Lightbourne, the Minister of Home Affairs, will speak on the cost-of-living report — and give an update to the House on the forthcoming Landlord and Tenant Act 2025, aimed at modernising and consolidating legislation.
