Boulevard and PHC herald start of FA Cup weekend
Boulevard and PHC Zebras will be hoping to keep their FA Cup hopes alive when they battle in a quarter-final clash at Devonshire Rec tonight (8pm).
The cup tie pits together two of the most successful teams in the competition’s history, with PHC having lifted the showpiece a record 11 times and Blazers on five occasions.
PHC have hit top stride lately and are the firm favourites heading into the match after dispatching Boulevard 3-0 in a Premier Division contest at the same venue in December.
However, PHC captain Daren Usher is not taking anything for granted against a Blazers side that appear to be growing in confidence as they enter the final third of the season.
“Blazers have had a good start to the new year and I’m sure they’re looking to continue that,” the experienced defender told The Royal Gazette.
“It’s also a cup game so it’s go big or go home and we are showing up with every intention of progressing through to the next round.
“We had the opportunity to watch them play in front of us against Robin Hood, so I’m sure the coaches have done their homework and will select the team accordingly.”
Usher said preparations for the all Premier Division cup tie have gone well with team morale high after a fantastic 1-0 win over league champions and FA Cup holders North Village last time.
“We are preparing for this match just as we have every other game this season,” he said.
“Morale is good especially after getting that win against Village, but we are all just focused on the next opponents. The job is far from finished and we’re going to fight until the very end.”
PHC last lifted the prestigious FA Cup during the 2016-17 season and Blazers during the 2008-09 campaign.
