Section of Cedar Avenue to close for resurfacing
A portion of Cedar Avenue will be closed to traffic next week to allow for resurfacing works.
The City of Hamilton said that the road will be closed to traffic between its junction with Dundonald Street south to Victoria Street, adjacent to Victoria Park, from 7am on Monday, with the works expected to take a week.
A spokeswoman said: “Cedar Avenue has been prioritised as part of the City’s ongoing road resurfacing and infrastructure maintenance programme.
“During the closure, traffic entering the city via Cedar Avenue will be diverted at key junctions, using clearly marked signage.”
Motorists entering the city from Black Watch Pass will be directed onto St John’s Road at the tennis stadium traffic lights or continue on Cedar Avenue until Angle Street or Elliot Street with no traffic allowed past Elliot Street.
At the junction of Cedar Avenue and Victoria Street, traffic will only be allowed to travel east or west along Victoria Street.
Motorists turning onto Cedar Avenue from Brunswick Street will be permitted to do so, but must turn right to travel north towards Black Watch Pass.
The spokeswoman added: “Diversion signage and barriers will be in place throughout the area to guide motorists and prevent entry into the work zone.
“Public bus services will announce any temporary route adjustments and all emergency services have been notified of the road closure and traffic changes.
“Should inclement weather interrupt the works, paving will pause and resume as soon as conditions allow.
“Maintaining the closure throughout the work period will allow contractors to complete the repairs safely and efficiently within the planned time frame.”
