Centennial Bermuda Foundation, Bermuda’s largest private philanthropic organisation, has appointed Melissa Butler to its board of directors.

Dr Butler will also serve as chairwoman of the Community Health and Fundamental Needs Committee, succeeding long‑serving board member and outgoing committee chairwoman, Joy Pimental, who is retiring.

In a statement, Centennial extended its “sincere thanks to Ms Pimental for her leadership, commitment, and significant contributions to the foundation’s work”.

Dr Butler previously served as the committee’s deputy chair. She serves as director of strategic commissioning at Bermuda Hospitals Board.

She is also the owner of The Evidence Space LLC, a Bermuda-based consultancy providing healthcare and research advisory services.

Her professional work reflects a strong understanding of healthcare systems, evidence-based decision-making, and community impact, Centennial said.

Since 2023, she has served on Centennial’s Community Health and Fundamental Needs Review Committee. In addition, Dr Butler has worked closely with the Steering Committee on the Foundation’s strategic planning work.

Melissa shared that joining the Board is “an expansion of my commitment” to strong governance and to ensuring Centennial’s philanthropy remains rigorous and people-centred.

As chairwoman of the Community Health and Fundamental Needs Committee, she aims to “lead a fair, focused, and accountable process” that reflects both data and the real pressures residents and families face in Bermuda.

Annarita Marion, chairwoman of Centennial’s board, welcomed Dr Butler to her new roles, adding: “Her three years of service on the committee, combined with her extensive healthcare knowledge and strategic leadership experience, will contribute meaningfully to Centennial’s continued work.”
